Excellent mental math training session.
Mental calculation is not about raw memorization—it is about decomposing complex numbers into friendly, manageable chunks that your working memory can process in seconds.
Unlike pen-and-paper math which works right-to-left, mental math is faster left-to-right. To add 47 + 38: first add tens 40 + 30 = 70, then add units 7 + 8 = 15, then combine: 70 + 15 = 85!
When subtracting numbers close to 10 or 100, round up first. To calculate 83 − 29: calculate 83 − 30 = 53, then add back 1 to compensate: 54.
When multiplying with an even number and a 5, halve one and double the other: 16 × 35 = 8 × 70 = 560. Calculating 8 × 7 is effortless!
Break larger dividends into recognizable multiples: to divide 96 ÷ 4, break 96 into 80 + 16. Then (80 ÷ 4) + (16 ÷ 4) = 20 + 4 = 24.
Just 5 to 10 minutes per day is sufficient to dramatically increase your calculation confidence, working memory, and mental agility.
