From spreadsheet rows to JSON records
Use CSV to JSON when a spreadsheet export needs to become an API fixture, an application import, or a structured dataset. Each data row becomes an object with the first row as its keys. Without headers, rows become arrays.
Convert in three steps
- Paste CSV or choose a UTF-8 CSV, TSV or text file.
- Check the delimiter and header options, then select Convert CSV to JSON.
- Review the sample records and copy or download the complete JSON array.
Empty lines are skipped. Empty values remain empty strings, and duplicate or missing headers produce an error instead of overwriting data. Automatic delimiter detection examines the first nonempty record; choose a delimiter explicitly if it is ambiguous.

CSV to JSON questions
Will this preserve ZIP codes and product IDs?
Yes. Values remain strings by default, including leading zeros. Optional type conversion also leaves leading-zero identifiers and integers outside JavaScript’s safe range as strings. Review decimal values carefully when enabling type conversion.
Can I convert CSV files with commas inside a value?
Yes. Enclose the entire field in double quotes. Escape a double quote within that field by doubling it. Line breaks are allowed inside quoted fields.
What happens if rows have different numbers of columns?
The converter identifies the record and stops. Fix the missing delimiter, extra separator or incorrectly quoted field, then convert again. It does not discard extra values or silently fill missing fields.
Is my CSV sent to a server?
The converter reads and processes your input locally in this browser. It does not upload your CSV or JSON, and does not save the data to browser storage. Use a dedicated offline workflow if your organization requires a fully offline environment.
